Polyurethane pipe lining is used to protect steel pipes from abrasion, corrosion, and impact in slurry and pneumatic conveying systems. Chema Engineers does both cast-in-place and pre-molded sleeve PU lining for new pipes and retrofits.
Types of PU Pipe Lining
1. Cast PU Lining: Liquid PU poured and centrifugally cast inside steel pipe
- Thickness 6mm to 25mm, uniform wall, no seams
- Lengths up to 6 meters per piece
- Best bond strength: PU chemically bonds to steel
2. Pre-molded PU Sleeve/Tube: Molded PU tube inserted into steel pipe
- For diameters 50mm to 600mm NB
- Replaceable sleeves for maintenance
- Flanged ends or plain ends with PU lip seal
3. Spray PU Lining: For large dia pipes >600mm, tanks, chutes
- Thickness 3mm to 12mm, applied on-site
- Fast turnaround for refurbishment
4. PU Lined Bends & Fittings: 45°, 90°, 180° elbows, tees, reducers
- Higher wear zones get extra thickness or ceramic-chip reinforced PU
Key Features
1. Material: Abrasion-resistant polyurethane, Shore A 85–95
- 85A for large particle impact: coal, aggregate
- 95A for fine particle slurry: iron ore, tailings, sand
2. Pipe Sizes: 25mm NB to 1200mm NB
3. Temperature: -20°C to +80°C continuous. Special grades to +100°C
4. Pressure Rating: PU does not take pressure – steel pipe does.
Lining rated for 10 bar to 40 bar depending on steel schedule.
Benefits vs Rubber, Ceramic, Basalt Lined Pipe
1. 5-8x longer life than rubber in sharp, coarse slurry
2. Lightweight: 1/3rd weight of basalt/ceramic lined pipe – easier install
3. Impact resistance: No cracking like ceramic tiles under water hammer
4. Smooth bore: Low friction = less pumping power vs rubber lined
5. No corrosion: PU seals steel from acidic/alkaline slurry
6. Repairable: Local patch repair possible vs full replacement
Technical Specs Chema Engineers Offers
1. Hardness: 85A, 90A, 95A.
Ceramic-chip reinforced for extreme wear
2. Thickness: 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25 mm standard. Custom to 50mm
3. Abrasion Loss: <40 mm³ per DIN 53516 for 95A grade
4. Elongation: >400% – absorbs impact without cracking
5. Standards: Flanges to ANSI B16.5, DIN, BS as per requirement
Why Chema Engineers PU Lined Pipes?
- Centrifugal casting line for perfect concentricity and uniform thickness
- In-house testing: Bond test, hardness, thickness check on every pipe
- Complex spools: We line bends, reducers, manifolds as single pieces
- Site lining: For large dia pipes/tanks we do on-site spray PU
- Wear monitoring: Provision for thickness testing ports/UT reading
